Open Refine - cleaning the really dirty data

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

No dataset is perfect and without any errors. Especially data from authorities always contains some errors. Before doing stories, we therefore need to check and clean the data. Perhaps the errors hide the best story, or they simply hide everything. Or they are the best story. Open Refine (former Google refine) is a tool to fast identify and clean data on a systematic way. It's easy to start with and have a lot of possibilities later on. It works perfect with spreadsheets. We will take the first step into this tool, so you will learn the basic methods in cleaning.
